ABOUT ME

I’m a writer and author of War Boys: A Father and Son Memoir, a braided story about my Russian father’s adoption by Nazis during World War II and the trauma he carried into fatherhood. War Boys was the subject of the Belarusian documentary “The Fate of Men.”

War Boys and I won a 2023 PEN America/Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History and a Nonfiction Contributor Award for the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference in 2022.

I’m working on a new book about fatness, Queerness, and American diet culture called Fat Boy Fat. I’m represented by Trinity McFadden at The Bindery Agency for both books.

I earned my MFA in creative nonfiction from George Mason University and have written for The North American Review, The Guardian, Salon, Roxane Gay’s Emerging Writer Series “The Audacity,” WBUR’s Cognoscenti, Brevity, and WORLD Channel’s Stories from the Stage. When not writing, I’m a recently retired disability attorney and live on a lake in central Massachusetts with my husband and our greyhound Champ.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
& AWARDS

War Boys, my braided memoir, tells the tale of my Russian father’s adoption by the Nazis who murdered his family during World War II, and the wartime trauma he carried into parenthood.

At its heart, this is a story of survival in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, and about the power of seeing our parents as complex human beings who carry their own childhoods into parenthood.

War Boys won a 2023 PEN America/Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History.
